Outdoor Carpentry in Redwood.
Designed and Built by Hand in the LA Foothills.
Custom fences, gates, decks, arbors, and outdoor structures for homes in Sunland, La Crescenta, Pasadena, and the surrounding areas.
I'm Tyler Julka — a carpenter who specializes in custom redwood structures for homes in the LA foothills. Fences, gates, decks, arbors, pergolas, and whatever else the property calls for.
I work on one project at a time with my apprentice Alex, and I do the design and build work myself. Every board is hand-selected. Every joint is thought through. The goal is always the same: build something that looks right, works right, and lasts.

Why I Build in Redwood
I chose to specialize in redwood for a reason. It's naturally resistant to rot, insects, and decay — which matters in a climate that swings between dry heat and seasonal rain. It's dimensionally stable, takes a finish beautifully, and weathers to a silver-grey that only gets better with age if you let it. And it's a renewable, sustainably harvested softwood grown right here in California.
Most of all, it's a pleasure to work with. The grain is forgiving. The color is warm. When you run your hand along a well-built redwood fence, you feel something that composite and pressure-treated lumber can't give you.
I hand-select every board from my suppliers. I know the grades, I know the mills, and I know how to get the most out of each piece.
How I Work
-
One Project at a Time
When I start your project, I'm there every day until it's done. No juggling jobs, no rotating crews, no wondering when someone's going to show up. You get my full attention.
-
Design Meets Site
No two properties are the same — especially in the foothills. Slopes, setbacks, existing structures, views, shade patterns. I design around what's actually there, not what a template assumes.
-
Straight Talk
You'll get a fixed-price proposal with a clear scope of work before anything gets built. If something changes on site, we talk about it first. No surprises.
Simple Process
-
A phone call or text to discuss what you're looking for, your timeline, and your budget. If it sounds like a good fit, I'll come take a look at the property.
-
I visit the site, take measurements, walk the terrain, and develop a design that works for your home, your lot, and your budget. We'll go back and forth until it feels right.
-
A fixed-price quote with a detailed scope of work — materials, dimensions, construction methods, timeline. No ambiguity.
-
I show up, I build, and I stay on it until it's done. You'll see the work take shape day by day. If you have questions or want to adjust something along the way, I'm right there.
-
Walk out your back door and see something that wasn't there before — built well, built to last, and built for your life.
