While I like to stick with what I know best - building long lasting outdoor structures - I’m always open to carpentry project requests if it is interesting, creative, and out of the ordinary. Examples of unusual work I’ve done in the past include a basement bar/bartop, an indoor rock climbing gym, custom indoor furniture, and many wood accent walls.

Generally speaking, we serve residential homeowners seeking to improve their home. Past experience has shown that the clients best suited for our services have experience working with contractors, plan to live in their home for a long time, and value high levels of craftsmanship and service over the lowest priced offerings.
-
As a carpenter, I work mainly with wood materials sourced from the best lumber yards around - no big box store lumber. Metal and concrete can also be incorporated into designs if worked around a predominantly wood structure (i.e. metal gate frame, concrete patio under pergola, etc.)

-
Yes! If your project requires our design services - this is almost always the case due to the nature of custom work and the unique challenges each property presents - we will form a design agreement to get the project started the right way.
You can learn more about this process on the Design & Drawings page.
-
In some instances, permits may be obtained by the property owner from the local Building and Safety District Office. Ultimately, it is the contractor’s responsibility to ensure all necessary building permits have been issued before the starting the work.
In regards to fences, decks, and pergola structures - permits may be required depending on the size (height of fence or deck, square footage of deck or pergola, etc).
-
Most of our projects fall between $5,000 - $15,000 - but of course, this can vary widely depending on what is being built. A small, simple deck may cost less than a large, ornate fence.
Three factors will have the biggest impact on price are the size/scope of work, complexity of design, and quality of material used. Read more by visiting the Design & Pricing page.

Estimates are, by definition, rough numbers. Rough estimates are free, provided enough detail is known about the project.
Proposals are a professional service that often require significant amounts of work, therefore require a financial commitment. This is often in the form of a design agreement - so you’re getting something of value aside from a fixed price quote.
-
All proposals are given in the form of a fixed price quote. We don’t work by the hour, by the day, charge for time and materials, or use cost-plus agreements.
-
Yes, financing is offered through a third-party company with interest rates as low as 9.99% for qualified applicants.
-
Yes, for large or unfamiliar projects, it’s advisable to gather multiple quote to ensure fair pricing and quality workmanship.
You may decide multiple estimates aren’t necessary if you have a trusted and established relationship with a contractor, have thoroughly researched their reputation and work quality, and are comfortable with their pricing.
-
In short, we strive to build a project that will last 30-40 years, whereas most contractors are satisfied with a 15-20 year longevity.
Every decision made in the design and engineering process, the quality of materials used, and building practices that exceed minimum acceptable standards contributes to this goal.
-
A written proposal includes basic information of both parties entering the agreement, a detailed scope of work that may or may not include itemized pricing, proposed design drawings and material samples, and the contract.
-
The contract includes, among other things, information about mechanic’s liens and the homeowner’s right to recision, a fixed price with payment schedule, estimated completion date, and any applicable warranties.
-
We like to have projects booked 4-6 weeks out at all times to make sure we stay busy while still maintaining reasonable wait times for clients. However, there are instances where we may be able to work in a small 1-2 day project within 2-3 weeks.
-
Depending on complexity, most projects can be completed within 3-5 days from the start date. Larger, more extensive projects may take up to 2-3 weeks.
-
A typical payment schedule will be broken up into four payments:
— Deposit of 10% or $1000, whichever is less
— 40% upon delivery of materials and starting the work
— 40% when installation is complete and prior to finishing
— 10% upon completion of the contract
Projects spanning several weeks may be further split into smaller progress payments.
-
— Online through PayPal with debit or credit card (subject to 4% processing fee)
— Bank transfer through Zelle or Venmo
— Cash or personal check
-
Yes, changes are not uncommon to be made as work progresses. Prior to the altered/additional work, a change order will be written up showing the new scope of work along with additional costs (or credits).
Change orders must be signed and paid in full before commencement of altered/additional work.
-
All carpentry work will be done with in-house, W2 employees, covered under worker’s compensation insurance.
Specialty trade work such as painting or masonry is often performed by qualified subcontractors we know and trust.
-
Tyler, the owner, will be present through at least 90% of the project to both supervise employees and subcontractors while doing hands-on carpentry work.
-
